Westfield Penrith
Hi I only found this forum today & only got back into scanning last October after a break of over 10 years, I thought I share my scanning experiences & frequencies in the hope that others might share their favorites
I work in Penrith, not far from the Westfield & I have my handheld AOR Ar-mini with me at all times on my desk & when I go to lunch sometimes in the Westfield (with earphones)
The The Westfield repeater can be heard all over the Penrith area & I can even sometimes hear it up the mountains if I am in the right spot.
The main security working channel is 463.150 Ch1 & the call signs heard are S1 to SXX etc also heard is M1-Mxx ext, the M call signs are for the maintenance crew who can be heard running around fixing escalators & air conditioner chillers etc
Their standard on air procedure is to change channels to Channel 4 (463.075) when ever they have any thing more than a quick message to pass.
Some of the on air jargon that I have worked out by listening:
Code Grey = lost child
Code Red = Fire
Code Silver = not too sure but maybe money escort?
White lights = ambulance
Red lights = Fire
Blue lights, you guessed it = Police
POI = Person Of Interest
There is a couple of other codes I have heard, but because I did'nt write them down I can't remember
It can be interesting listening to the running of a shopping centre, believe it or not.
They also have another frequency in use 466.650 CH2?, which is used by the cleaners & as I don't bother listening to that I don't know what goes on on that one (probably just talking about overflowing bins in the food court etc )
Hope someone finds this interesting.

Hi Michael,
Welcome back to scanning. You mentioned channel 1,2 and 4 is there a 3? I'm located in the Hawksbury don't know if i can here it here at Richmond but will put it in the mobile and have a listen (its probably only 5w output).
Regards
Kev

Hi mate, no mention of a channel 3 on air so far, maybe it is simplex? if the repeater drops? yes it is 5w & I can hear it when I drive to Windsor till almost when you get to the crossroads on the Northern Road, incidently 463.075 is also used by John Moroney Centre at Windsor
There is also some other company coming up on 463.150 when I am in the mountains, according to ACMA 463.150 is also used by Mt Tomah Botanical Gardens.
When I got my scanner I did a search on the ACMA for sites containing the words "Penrith" "Blue Mountains" etc
I used to listen to Westfields about 10+ years ago when it was called the Penrith Plaza & they were somewhere around 470mhz? I could pick them up on my base station UHF CB antenna from my house at Hazelbrook, but I could also hear boats on Sydney harbour on VHF marine, as well as work Newcastle CH1 UHF CB on a handheld & hear the Swansea (near Newcastle)bridge control on 27Mhz marine.... gee I miss that location!

Re: Westfield Penrith
Thanks Michael,
Yes its a bit scratch around Richmond but i can here it fine at home on the base setup. Its 13.7km away from my place line of site (with no terrain obstructions) and i have a little bit of elevation so that helps. Might have a listen tonight and see how busy the security gets on a Thursday shopping night.
On the subject of Penrith freq, what about the legues club any info on what they use for security comms?
Regards

ACMA lists 472.400 (duplex) & 450.375 for Panthers, I have them in my scanner but I have not heard anything on there yet..... I think it is the same frequeincies they had about 20 years ago when I live in South Penrith back then they were very active on a Saturday nightkevnerd486 wrote:Thanks Michael,

While we are in that area, some sort of security/organisers can be heard on a Wedenday mornings around the paceway on 472.450 simplex - low power handhelds, this is where the wed markets are held

Re: Westfield Penrith
I went into Westfields today for lunch, just as I drove in the lights in the car park flickered on & off a couple of times, I was listening on 463.150 ch1 & it came alive with the staff in chaos as there had been power surges & blackouts throughout the complex.
They had to reset some of the escalators & added to this the traffic lights at the entrances were flashing orange causing traffic to bank up.
They were on to carpark1 & carpark2 on 466.650 CH2 about the traffic lights problem, so CH2 is not just used by the cleaners....
Then they had a couple of "code blue's" to deal with, this was 1 code I forgot to list before, a code blue is when someone injures themselves, there was a lady who slipped over & they said on air "she is wearing thongs & slipped in some water"
They had another code blue in the east wing which needed the white lights to attend, the maintenance crew was kept busy with water leaks into shops with & a/c systems too cold etc
If the current torrential rain in Penrith keeps up tonight, then you should have plenty of Thursday night action to monitor

Re: Westfield Penrith
Does your AOR has CTCSS/DCS tone capability?
Although there maybe several users on a frequency, normally they can't hear each other as they have different offset tones.
Sounds like Code Blue stands for incident (with a description).
I have heard the same at Burwood Westfield but they were describing certain persons of interest harassing shoppers
Garry has a good list of code explanations here

Yes the AOR has CTCSS & DCS, with CTCSS scan, but on air i hear no difference in the tone on each user, but I can hear there is a difference between the tone on CH1 & Ch4cartman wrote:Does your AOR has CTCSS/DCS tone capability?

Each time they call a code blue it has always been for someone slipping over etc
Thanks for the info, i will check that out.
I have lunch with a lady at work who's husband used to work as a security guard at Westfield Penrith & sometimes he has lunch with us, so I will ask him if he can remember the codes
