I was thinking 20-25mm diameter pole at ~6m long for a side mount against the building. If I go too thin the more it move in the wind.

I wouldn't go under 25mm even for a light antenna... I'd lean towards 40mm if it is going to be the full 6m length. Cost difference isn't huge & you know it isn't going to flex.

I am now thinking using the signal mount (see below) for my 2.8m dipole
