Sphere Comms Sydney Airport

Post by cartman » Tue Aug 31, 2010 12:20 pm

I was scanning the City CBD last sunday around 7am on a very very quiet day at work and picked up this transmission

464.2000 114.8 Callsigns "Alpha, Charlie, Delta, Echo, Tango, Whiskey"

Turns out to be a Sphere Communication rental frequency at Sydney Airport and the particular users were Jetstar staff looking after JQ143 code share departure to Christchurch from the International Terminal. There are definitely other users on obscure channels like these. A couple of years ago I heard United Airlines using a Sphere Comms rental frequency on 464.8500 123.0 PL C/S "United Supervisor", "United 8XX

So if you are a regular airband listener or attend the airport for professional reasons (like some of the media dudes who are on this forum) it may pay to trawl through the ACMA database and see what other comms are in the area. Not every body is using TETRA, TRBO and NXDN from my observation. A lot of folk want to do it as cheap as possible.

Sphere Comms trades under the name of Paris Radio Electronics and seems to cover a wide range of activities of innovative products as well as radio communications.
I looked up their website and found that they sell Icom for VHF, Motorola GP328 for UHF and Icom for CBUHF.
Presumably the aviation user can rent radios as well

Sphere Comms users at Sydney Airport can be heard on these frequencies (Checked and updated 20/11/2012)

VHF
129.3750 Tx International Terminal Sydney Airport - 25w
130.4500 Tx International Terminal Sydney Airport - 25w
131.9000 Tx International Terminal Sydney Airport - 50w

UHF
461.2000 Tx International Terminal Sydney Airport - 50w duplex 10K1F3E
463.2250 Tx International Terminal Sydney Airport - 5w duplex 10K1F3E
464.2000 Tx International Terminal Sydney Airport - 50w duplex 10K1F3E - 114.8 Jetstar, United
464.8500 Tx International Terminal Sydney Airport - 5w duplex 10K1F3E 123.0 United
466.9750 Tx International Terminal Sydney Airport - 50w duplex 10K1F3E
493.0750 Tx Terminal 2, Sydney Airport - 25w Duplex 10K1F3E
495.0000 Australia-wide 5w simplex 10K1F3E

Check the CB UHF freqs + tone

506.9375 Tx International Terminal Sydney Airport - 50w duplex 10K1F3E
508.5500 Tx International Terminal Sydney Airport - 5w simplex 10K1F3E
508.9750 Tx International Terminal Sydney Airport - 50w duplex 10K1F3E

I remember Paris Radio from the early days of Personal Computers (years before the IBM PC).
They were distributors of SWTPC Computers, commonly referred to as SweatPacs.

John

I was listening to this one yesterday
486.8250 ASSETLINK SRV (INT TERM) CLEANERS DCS271
Supervisor had the callsign "Link 1" and i think the cleaners were numbered

491.1250 Shell is TRBO I believe or some sort of digital format

From my count there is

490 Mhz NXDN - Vertel
490 Mhz LTR - Vertel
800 Mhz TETRA - Motorola
800 Mhz Motorola Type II - Qantas and Motorola

and 508.7500 is part of that unique AMR Smartrunk system on Chiefley Tower - CTCSS is always 114.8

John, that's an awful lot of security freqs for the airport. I only know of SNP perimeter security working in with SACL patrols on 472.775MHz with some back channels, and the AFP who use their digital freqs. Are you sure they are all security?

Mike

Don't forget all those SNP security dudes in the various terminals who did the Xray checks - they are all on PMR freqs on 470-480Mhz. I am busy looking through my notes to find what frequency i have heard them on.

Have SNP on 471.725 listed at the airport but not heard.
The three below may not be active anymore but where about 2 years ago.
507.7000 AIRPORT SECURITY
508.7500 AIRPORT SECURITY AUST.MOB RADIO
509.3500 AIRPORT SECURITY PERIMETER/GND
I'm now getting data burst on 508.750 while listening at work to this freq.

John.
