Scanning Tasmania

Post by matthewn1983 » Thu Apr 13, 2017 10:33 am

From Scanning Tasmania via Facebook this morning.

Unfortunately, this is a post that we hoped we would never have to make, however due to the constant abuse and careless actions by a small minority of people, we have come to the unanimous decision to close this page and our website for the safety of all concerned.

Sadly, a small minority of trouble makers who are constantly abusing the information we provide or share are using it for their own selfish needs to become 'Ambulance Chasers', hinder Police Operations, inform others of Police movements (RBT's, speed traps, car chases etc.), and are basically using our information for all the wrong reasons, not once considering the consequences of their behaviour or the impact it may have on others at all, then again maybe they simply just don't care.

Scanning Tasmania was never about that sort of behaviour or attitude towards those that choose to serve and protect us, we have always worked actively with all such services to ensure any sensitive information we came across was kept from those who would abuse it the most, however the damage has already been done and it is truly disgusting that some people still seem to think this type of behaviour is ok and there is nothing wrong with it, but what has us constantly shaking our heads is those people see it fit to abuse or bad mouth Police or other services at any chance they get, especially if they get caught doing the wrong thing, yet we have to wonder that if ever they may require the urgent assistance or help from those people would they still have the same attitude or feelings towards them? , our guess is no and they would expect to be helped immediately....

But the most disappointing thing out of all of this is that those small minority have dragged the whole scanning community into disrepute, with the mere mention of scanning now automatically labelling you as an Ambulance chaser, being Anti-Police, or generally up to no good with your scanner, and in fact they are slowly killing off the hobby, the more these idiots abuse the info they hear or are told the more users will seek out better means of securing their communications, and the genuine enthusiasts will be the ones who miss out.

However, on a brighter note, those who we know are genuine enthusiasts will not be left out in the dark, bigger and better things are just around the corner for us, and finally, we only have one thing left to say to those doing the wrong thing, make the most of what you can currently hear.....it's all about to change.

This page will be removed within due course.

Something I have spoken about previously, that forums are a double edged sword. On one hand they support and promote the hobby, yet on the other, because of their unvetted nature denigrate it as well. I must admit that I and a number of others have withdrawn from posting anything of any value on such sites for the very reason alluded to in the above post. There is always someone wanting or willing to destroy things that others enjoy because of the irresponsible attitude or selfish nature.

No doubt some will disagree, such is your right.
