tracking fire locations with Sentinel Hotspots

Post by soupbones » Wed Jan 07, 2009 1:20 pm

Hello.
With the bushfires well under way, many of you may find this site handy.
This site is a government run site, which tracks fires and other 'hotspots' in Australia, and it is a good way to see exactly where fires are located. Here is the link to enter the site, just accept the disclaimer and it will take you to a map of Australia. Here you can zoom right in and see locations of current fires. You can also toggle terrain and IR sat over the image if you like. Note that some places such as Port Kembla Steel works always have a flame burning and therefore show up all the time. But for bush fires its great as you can zoom right down to the exact location, including road level maps.

Enter the site here http://sentinel.ga.gov.au/acres/sentine ... er_B.shtml

enjoy
