International Fleet Review - Sydney 2013

Post by Scotty » Mon Sep 30, 2013 11:16 am

The International Fleet Review in Sydney goes from 3 October through to the 11 October. The IFR will include a variety of warships from around the world docking in Sydney and permitting public access. There will also be a number of aerial displays over the week.

Details here: http://www.navy.gov.au/ifr/

I'm looking at going in on one of the days. Does anybody know of any unencrypted RAN or similar frequencies that would able to be monitored on a normal scanner (VHF/UHF)?

There will not doubt be a bit of activity on the standard maritime channels as well as the GRN, Ports channels, etc.

I would be listening to Marine VHF, Ports Authority are on 800mhz Moto trunk off Suncorp twr (formerly APT).Also monitor event organisers on 800mhz Moto trunk off GPT & GRN for ferry traffic,RMS for roads.
Interested to know if any ships will use HF to communicate with their bases back in their home country.
Airband for Roulettes (freq. mentioned in post on this forum) & any other air traffic.

John.

Was down there today, NSW Maritime vessels were in full swing while Navy helicopters were doing stunts around The opera house. Traffic controllers at Mrs Macquarie Chair had DMR Radios, city is being prepared for clearways all this week so keep an ear on the RTA talk groups for clearway tows.

Royal Botanic Gardens are on 488.9750 203.5
Garden Island is all digital so out of luck there.
City of Sydney Council are all digital NXDN Trunking, rangers/events/cleaning so again, out of luck.

** From Air Force Roulettes **
This weekend Sydney Harbour will be packed with many Navy Ships from all over the world to celebrate the Centenary of the Australian Navy Fleets entry to Sydney Harbour. We will be adding some airborne action to the event with displays at 10:15 on Friday and 17:00 on Saturday. We will also be doing a display at the Deni Ute Muster at 11:25 on Saturday and at the Old Bar Beach Festival near Taree at 12:30 on Sunday. Hope everyone in the area can make it , R7
