This article has just appeared in the last day or so
The information is already fairly well known and which Citabria has already published on elsewhere

Yawn. Any radio transmitter can be jammed if you transmit on top of it.

Its not a problem thats specific to P25, however these seem to think its worthy of publishing a paper on it..

The brute force cracking is interesting... might have a play with OpenP25 and some of the other tools when I get a PC radio sorted out. I know that crims have been selling dodgy radios with the NSW police code in them, but if it becomes a matter of simple brute force rather than social engineering, I dare say we will see the end of a non-transparent police force in 1-2 years max.

Well there is always going to be an element of social engineering in any organisation.
Example being my employer we recently had a problem with one of our internet connections at a remote site, I had to ring up a said telco to get the link checked but i was not authorised.
I put the helpdesk guy on the phone who said he is authorised, add him to the account. The guy at said telco did just that without any further verification..

I'd love to Matt if there wasn't all sorts of dramas now with government approved interstate travel... it looks like an interesting conference.

Cheers,

Richard
