RFS: P25 Transmissions on TG10055 off Chullora & Horsley Pk
As the heading suggests the RFS appear to be re-transmitting the PMR over P25 TG 10055 using the digital channels off Horsley Park and Chullora sites.

Pretty much, southern and western brigades seem to be the most common.

Sounds like they are testing patching between analogue & digital- its a big issue out on the fringe of the GRN. P25 (any vocoder for that matter) has issues rebroadcasting a noisy analogue signal because the vocoder is designed around human voice, which doesn't normally have white noise. As a result the P25 audio can sound pretty poor. Some of us have been testing just how bad it is to see whether we can live with it during the transition.
So does the audio sound OK? Strong sigs should be clear but wait for a noisy signal and see what you think.
Nice to see you here Rusty! Its been a few years- hope everything is well up your way.
Cheers,
Richard

In that case it sounds more like a reception problem at your end rather than an analog> P25 digital patching issue..

Na, I also heard it Friday as well and the transmission quality was very poor, the P25 was dropping in and out not like the clear crisp transmissions I have heard up to now by the GRN Tech’s and others so far and I was in a good receive location as well.
If I had to give it a rating, it would have been around 2 out of 5.

I agree with that too - but -If he wasn't having local reception problems why would his scanner lose sync of the signal so badly that it can't recognise it as P25 and drops back to displaying DAT...??
