I don't think it would be online now. probably in a month or so.

I'm wondering if the current PMR frequencies used in the Putty Rd area (Ambos etc) will no longer be needed and the new site will give full GRN trunked coverage?

It *MAY* give similar coverage to Poppong, but will not go near covering Putty. Even as it stand with Poppong / Putty there are holes along Putty Rd.

My comments above in RED.

Once the site is built, there is still the question of the Govts preferred link supplier getting links in. They are not doing well, there are some sites built 18months ago with no links, and they over 12 months overdue on replacing links at existing sites.

I wonder if there is any plans for a booster site around Central Station - as there appears to be a number of black spots in and around the vast area that makes up the precincts of the station eg Devonshire Tunnel.
I know there is a ESR site but it doesn't cut the mustard above ground.
Speaking to folk and listening to the broadcasts it is clear that it is not the best coverage
In case the readers are unaware 30% of assaults in the rail system happen at Central - even this black duck has been threatened a couple of times
All the kooky folk gravitate there and spread out overnight around the station.
I do recall seeing something on railcorp funding being made available for upgrades to a number of sites in time for digital.

So how many ACMA listed sites would be in limbo then?

the "system" can pretty much forget some upgrades for the next few years. NSW State Govt now have some VERY serious $$ problems.

Mike I would say quite a number of the newer sites are in limbo, and will be that way for a while yet.

One place I can vouch for superb communications is the new ECRL stations and tunnels.
It is bloody brilliant, especially in equipment rooms and deep inside the tunnels.
The stations have short black stubby whips (GRN) hanging down in various locations and for mobile comms there are half saucer shaped devices (like light domes) positioned discretely on the ceilings
In the tunnels there is leaky feeder cables along the entire length
I get better reception in there than at home .... full bar strength on Optus GSM mobile throughout and perfect voice clarity
Highly impressed.
