Tasmania police and scanners news story.

Post by Mike Alpha » Sun Feb 04, 2018 11:27 pm

I was in Tasmania last month. I took a DTS 96 with me and it didn't take long to work out the police EDACS trunking systems, especially in smaller towns. They are still analogue in the 865MHz band. Ambulance and fire use analogue transmissions in the 75 - 80MHz band.

Coincidentally, while I was there this newspaper article came out http://www.theadvocate.com.au/story/516 ... es-sooner/ In this age of the "look at me " syndrome, civil libertarians might find it shocking to learn what people actually publish about themselves online. Working in the media, I'm dumbfounded as to what reporters can unearth about people LEGALLY just on social media.

Anyway, there is a TasGRN planned (since 2005) and from what I've read there's been a stalemate in choosing which band to use. But now the gridlock is broken,

Thanks Mike!

Unfortunately that article is very light on details, apart from it using the VHF & UHF bands. It doesn't even say who the vendor will be, which might give us a clue?

Surely it has to be a P25 system doesn't it?

Looking at who is doing the "Technical Consultancy Services" it will either be Tetra or P25

i would hazard a guess it will either be a Tait or Motorola P25 Network just following suit with every other state at the moment
to many radios as 255 characters is not enough :)

It looks like it's still early days Andrew. Tender date isn't till June 2018. https://www.tenders.tas.gov.au/FutureOp ... etails/498

Those tendering for the job will be topping up the corporate Amex cards as the wining and dining begins.. ;)
