40 ch UHF CB has really only been 38 cn for some time, as channels 22/23 are set aside solely for short data packets. Most cb's sold anytime recently have those two channels blocked - hence some UHF cb's being labelled '38 channel' instead of 40 channels.

Earlier this year narrowband use commenced on UHF CB, meaning 25khz channel spacing was replaced by 12.5khz channel spacing. What this meant was effectively the 40 UHF channels went to 80 UHF channels. However, because CH 22/23 and the narrowband channel in between are all "blocked", that only leaves 77 channels available for use out of the 80. Hence some 80 channel CB's are marketed as '77 channel'.

Some Uniden and GME 40 CB's were sold prior to 80 channels legally being able to be used. These radios have 80 channels available, but need a sequence of keys to be entered allowing use of the 80 channels. Both Uniden and GME have info on their sites about the code that needs to be entered to allow use of the 80 (77) channels.

Ok,I was aware of the new 77 channel radios but was wondering how they could be programmed to expand their channels.

Thanks
