And generally speaking useless. It lacks DMR and from information received, will not have it at least for a while if at all.

Again generally speaking there are 20 DMR systems for every 1 NXDN/IDAS. If you were going to spend that sort of money I would recommend the SDS100. Yes it doesn't do SSB or D-Star or dPMR but in all honesty who is going to use those modes in a handheld?

Horses for courses...
As an airband listener you just can't beat Icom receivers.
The bluetooth, GPS, and dualwatch make the R30 worth the money for me, and the kind of listening I do.
In the end it comes down to what you want from the receiver.

+1 for the R30. I'm a relatively new R30 owner but IMHO it complements my trunking scanners very well. I use the other scanners for P25/NXDN/DMR trunking and the R30 for other airwave monitoring (… SSB has been interesting). I've found the complementary radio setup particularly when plane watching at airports.
