ubc396t wont scan a grn tower.
I have my 396 scanning the grn, but i also wanted it to scan another tower that's further away.
So i made a new group and It's been setup correctly with the base and offsets, control ch only ect
The issue I'm having is the radio wont detect it as a control channel and wont start scanning the tower for tgs.
I tried turning the squelch down but it didn't fix it, the reception of the tower sounds fine to me but it does not to the radio.
Is there any settings to make the radio scan that tower somehow ?
P.S - If i plug in my 254xlt with the same channels it scans that tower fine!?

Re: ubc396t wont scan a grn tower.
does the new group still scan the 'original' site ok?
Re: ubc396t wont scan a grn tower.
I just tested and no it doesn't.
My main grn group has all the CCs
I locked out the rest and just had it scan the channel I'm after and it wont track it.

Re: ubc396t wont scan a grn tower.
Is the site you are trying to scan actually an active site, that is, in use with TGs coming over it? Which site are you trying to monitor. Some sites may not be active, but have an active control channel. If you can hear the control channel in your system file with all the control channels then just stop it on that channel and watch the screen. Your scanner should display any active TG numbers coming over the control channel. If you see nothing coming over then it may just be a non active site.

Your terminology is a bit confusing. A group can't contain a trunking site. A group carries individual channels or talk groups.astro_boy wrote:I just tested and no it doesn't.

You have to set up the new tower as a new System
Once you've created the new system, the 396 will scan between the 2 towers.

Sorry Mike i must have got a bit carried away.
Yes it is a new system, and i belive my issue is I'm
not getting enough signal from the tower.
Not too long ago it was tracking the site and i could only just hear north syd nswfb.
Its odd though how bad it sounded compared to the sound of the control channel?
So i would say this is my issue, Not enough signal.
also the tower is Cowan.

The 396 are renowned for being a bit deaf, that would explain why the 245 was picking up the CC.astro_boy wrote:So i would say this is my issue, Not enough signal.

Are you using an external antenna or just the standard portable antenna?
Mike
Re: ubc396t wont scan a grn tower.
External Yagi pointing towards the tower.
There is another tower behind the antenna though
only half the distance and get it in good at 4 bars !

Re: ubc396t wont scan a grn tower.
What frequency is the other towers control channel? If its close to the Cowan site then it may be bleeding into the control channel frequency for Cowan and interfering with the data stream, causing your scanner to not decode it correctly. This could very well happen when using a high gain antenna such as a yagi.
Re: ubc396t wont scan a grn tower.
The other site is on 417.450
So its not that close.
