Shame that Uniden want to go backwards when it comes to scanners. Maybe if they dropped the price of the digital models to a more affordable level then they would have sold more of them.

the prices you see them for now arn't too bad. any more than 600 is getting beyond a joke. i'd rather import to get them cheaper but given the VHF Midband stuff isnt in the US stuff its a bit of a sacrifice.
cheers

although having a quick scan on ebay a brand new 996xt with full 25-1300mhz brand new to your door for $630 aus seems ok. i didnt realise the 996xt's did the full band. there $570au without postage.

That's just advertising hype. You will find they still have the Cellphone segment blocked, as well as other segments missing, eg. 512 to 700 MHz, or there-abouts.

See here for the BCD996XT Frequency Range

Has anyone purchased the 996XT?
I have a RadioShack 2096 scanner from the US and the audio isn't quite as good as my Uniden 996. I think this is due to the frequencies being just a bit out compared to Aus so you can listen ok but its just not quite as clear. Does the 996XT have the same problem and can you edit the frequency steps(?). For example 12.5KHz instead of 12KHz or similar.

We really need a brainiac to hack the USA firmware to work in the Aussie models!

Anyone got a XT from USA and using it here?? How does it go?? Is the P25 better??

I hear the USA ones are missing some 800mhz stuff, anything in particular?
