I agree - a seperate charger is certainly the way to do it, even though the 396 does have a proper trickle charging curcuit built in. A seperate charger will charge the batteries in far less time (when compared to in the scanner) and means that you can always have a set ready.

Also, just had a look at the batteries in the 396 when I got home. They are Energizer 2450mha (not 2400)- not that it makes much difference. I got a couple of packs off eBay a while back as well as a wall charger. Cost less than 1/2 of what it would of in a shop.

And just in case anybody has lost their charger, the 396 needs a regulated 6 volt 1 amp charger.

Brought new energizer rechargeable batteries charged them up and only getting about 2 to 3 hours out of them tried a second set and same thing any ideas on why they are going flat so quick. I held the scanner on 4 tg's only with same result.

I'm using Energizer rechargeable 2450 mAh NI-MH and getting 8-10 hours out of a charge (on new batteries), but I just checked and the little switch in the back is set to Alkaline, don't know how much difference that makes?

Might flick the switch and see what happens. I tried to use the U b c92xlt charger on it and came up with illegal voltage. Same voltage as the original charger just less ma rating thought that would work!

The battery charger I have only can charge 2 or 4 at a time not 3 which is annoying
