Batteries for 396
Hi all
I think I may have asked something similar to this a long time ago but I can't remember the answer
I need new batteries for my 396 scanner, if I get different ma/h ones will the scanner charge them and tell me when charge is complete like it does ith the ones that come with it? I will be using the standard power pack and charging them in the scanner.
Is there any brands you wouldn't recommend?
What battereis are you using in yours?
Thanks
Mark

Re: Batteries for 396
Yes any rechargable AA batteries will charge in there. Ones with a bigger mA rating may take a bit longer to charge but should be fine. Best ones I have are actually Energize brand 2400mAh batteries. They used to charge ok when I had a 396.

Will a cigarete lighter with a connection To suit the 396 charge fine can I pick one up from jaycar or Is there somewhere I can get one from.
Thanks sw sydney scanner. Using UBCD396T
Re: Batteries for 396
I use Energizer 2400mha batteries in my 396. They take a long time to fully charge using the scanner circuit, but once charged last me for many, many days of regular use.
In regards to car chargers, get one with the same voltage and amperage as the wall charger and it will work fine. Doesn't have to be a Uniden branded charger.

Re: Batteries for 396
After what i did to one of my PSR500's i'd never charge batteries in a scanner ever again. im even reluctant to power them via a power adapter.
the PSR's charge at a steady rate so its a big no no.
given how the newer battery chargers are now i would have thought it would have been quicker to do it in a proper charger.
for the record ive used the Ultracell 2500 mAh batteries with good results(bout 15-20 hours runtime in the 500,for the record a set of Duracell alkalines get 5-6 hours)
also have used the Powertech branded batteies from Jaycar with equally good results too. i found the Energisers good for a while but of the pack of 4 one died after a couple of months and the others are fairly weak too. given the price of the energisers i was a bit dissapointed.
cheers
