UBCD325P2 vs BCD325P2-AU

Post by pks » Sun Oct 01, 2017 1:16 am

Anyone know what the differences are between UBCD325P2 and BCD325P2-AU?

Uniden website is showing UBCD325P2 as current, and BCD325P2-AU as discontinued.

Now that Uniden have released DMR/NXDN/Provoice for UBCDx36-PT, I wonder if they'll work on the UBCD325P2 next.

The BCD325P2-AU was the first release and basically the US version sold in Australia.

The UBCD325P2 is the Australianised version, that is full 800 MHz band and appropriate step sizes etc.

May be off-topic but does anyone know if any work has been done to reverse engineer, debug, patch, mod Uniden firmware?

Perhaps we can buy US models, patch firmware and unlock 800 mhz and whatever else.

Two words, Good Luck!

Now several questions. Why would you want to? And. What do you think you are going to get out of an opened up US model that you cannot get out of an Australian model?

What many people seem to forget is this, numerous firmware upgrades are/were released in the US because because the FCC (our ACMA) reassigned the trunking bands to include 700 and 900 MHz as well as changes to 800 MHz. That DID NOT happen here so we didn't need the firmware change. The US introduced 12.5 kHz spacing on some bands, we already have that so again no need for the firmware upgrade.

Believe me or not - don't really care either way, if a firmware upgrade is warranted for Australian models we get. The US, UK, Europe, Asia and Timbuktu all have different radio bands and channel plans etc. What is good for one it not necessarily good for another.

But if you wish to breach patent laws, waste a good deal of money and achieve virtually nothing, feel free.
