INFORMATION FOR UBCD436PT AND UBCD536PT OWNERS RE THE RECENT RELEASE OF THE DMR FIRMWARE UPGRADE IN THE US.

If you have been following this story on a well known overseas forum you will have seen that Uniden America is bascially keeping this latest firmware upgrade in house, that is no international credit card transactions.

The other problem is a difference in ESN (Electronic Serial Numbers) between the North American BCD435/536HP and the Australianised version, (UBCD436/536PT). The Uniden America website (necessary to download and

purchase the firmware upgrade) will not accept the UBCD436/536PT ESN's.

I have been in contact with some of the higher ups in Uniden Australia to discuss the situation. WITHOUT making any promises or commitments, they will investigate the proposition of releasing the upgrade here in Australia. One

proviso is that it will be only for the Australian UBCD436/536PT and not the North American BCD435/536HP. I am afraid as the non Australian unit were purchased overseas they are not supported here in Australia (my words not

theirs).

There is no time frame about this, it is purely in the preliminary stages at the moment, but it is a move forward. I ask that everyone be patient and await the outcome. I know everyone is 'excited' about this, none more so than me, but

it is going to take time. Also it may not happen, because of a number of circumstances that I cannot and will not discuss, here or elsewhere.

When I find out more I will let everyone know.

Nothing against Uniden Aus, but I wouldn't hold my breath for them to find a solution. I understand you have more of an insight into Uniden Aus then the rest of us Russell, but they haven't exactly been overly forthcoming with firmware/software updates nor releasing new models (understanding of course the size of the Aus/NZ market) in the past - and I can't see that changing into the future.

The workaround is to buy a US model and upgrade from one of the reputable scanner dealers in the US (or you can get the scanner cheaper elsewhere then just the upgrade) and be done with it. Once the upgrade has been tried/tested by the public in the US I'll be going down this route - or getting one of the new Whistler models, which look very inviting and are promising NXDN as well.

Has anyone updated their 436/536 yet and did they have any issues being from Australia when paying?

There are US scanner dealers who will happily accept International orders from Australia.

Scannermaster and Bearcatwarehouse are 2 others that have both indicated they will stock the update and both take orders from Australia. US shops through eBay are offering the scanner and update as well.

When the update is officially released (still in 'Preview' mode) other dealers who ship Internationally will likely come on board.

I found a way around it, create an account on Entropay (virtual credit card) and find an address in the US from google (perhaps a comms company) and then create account on Unidens website, add serial and ESN and the purchase the DMR key. You will need to download the beta firmware from uniden and copy to sdcard manually. Reboot and the n enter the license key and all done. Good luck setting up systems...
