I've not long finished a blog piece on this for those that are interested. (Be kind, I'm far from a literary genius!)

As for local unit releases. I would've thought the chap that signs off with an 'R' would be best suited to getting an answer on that one. ;)

Looks like a nice unit, I'm glad to see Uniden have finally woken up and realised that it's the 21st century and nobody has serial ports any more!

The prices aren't up too much from the previous XT models, so that seems reasonable to me. Just wait till some idiot starts selling them at cost and you will probably see that come down by a hundred or so?

Yeah it's a little disappointing that they haven't included support for TRBO at the least, and the other thing I'd really like to see is a crypto engine so the user could enter a known key and have the unit decrypt at least DES & AES, I don't think the export restrictions would apply to a receiver but now that I think about it, there probably wouldn't be enough demand?

Bluetooth would be great, I use bluetooth earpiece with one of my radios now! You can sync it to the car radio if its compatible, or with the earpiece. Even better when you take radios out to events, can listen in with the radio in your bag, or on the way to work on the train!

MotoTRBO and NXDN wouldve been good, the encryption/decryption would be too complicated. Only cater for 1/2 dozen people. Easier to deal with that with a commercial radio.

Not sure if it displays P25 Conventional Radio IDS like the PSR800 does, probably a good chance it does, has anyone read the user manual yet to confirm? Radio (portable) looks a tag bigger then the 396XT too, what do people think about the size.

Surely it would?

The Uniden BCD396XT, BCD996XT and local release UBCD396XT can do this. You need to program the Conventional P25 frequency as a P25 One-Frequency Trunk.
Put it in ID Search mode and make sure NAC is in search mode and you should start seeing results.

Test it on the ARFF P25 system. You can enter multiple frequencies under the Site despite it being a 'One-Frequency Trunk'. It should show as a TGID when recieving and RiD's (providing you have that option turned on).

This Radio Reference thread may be of interest, post 21.

So if those units do it I'd say these new releases do???

On my UBCD396XT I monitor the ARFF and another agency like this. The ARFF shows both as a TGID and RiD's and the other agency just shows as a TGID and no RiD's. I think originally that agency was P25 overlayed over existing system though, not sure if that has an effect or is still the case or if it's due to encryption.

Hi all, The only flaw i find with one trunk freq is it works ok on a single vote P25 conventional system which in my area has 10 sites, but on the other hand with another agency having multiple vote groups interconnected, probably around 50-60% of the time it wont show the id's operating on the local vote group. The PSR800 on the other hand has no problem with it ever. Always shows the id's every time.
So hopefully we don't have to use the one trunk method on the 436 and 546 to do what the 800 can achieve without going to those lengths.
Cheers

Apologies for resurrecting an old post. Has anyone tried the Uniden WiFi Dongle with the Australian UBCD536-PT?

I don't think the Aus version of the 536 has the wifi function. Can't find any mention of it in my user manual...

Thanks. I guess WIFI will come along when Uniden Australia decide to release firmware update. Hopefully DMR as well.

Your fairly hopeful, not like UA has got off there backsides to do anything else with their scanners.

Now that a new firmware has been released for DMR and NXDN, has anyone checked if WIFI is supported?
