unless i'm mistaken there isn't much the casion staff can do if you take a scanner into there, as with any decent radio system if they have something they do not want people to hear encrypt it or put some form of voice inversion onto it

If "Xray" on Security talkgroup 0-03-001 decides that you are a persona non grata - they will escort you out and if you resist, you will get thrown out
I have heard heaps get escorted out
Doesn't matter if you are male or female - once they decide you are not there to gamble and spend your money, or you are a nuisance eg Code Whiskey (drunk) ... out you go
Remember that guy who eventually died at the front of the casino ... he resisted and had a heart attack from the melee that ensured
There are a thousand cameras in that facility and i think if you were walking around on the gaming floor with an ear plug (and not casino staff) you would immediately arouse suspicion that you were up to something, which would be sufficient grounds to eject you
Better off listening from a half a kilometre away and outside the facility

from a legal point of view they have to have authority to remove people that are deemed not appropriate, and i know from personal experience removing intox persons is perfectly legal, but someone wandering through there with an ear piece that is not staff not hasseling anyone... I'd be asking them under what authority they were trying to remove me and if they could not tell me i'd be demanding the police be called before i'd budge.
There is only one exception to this rule and that is if they are special constables

Security 101, know what you can and cannot do and under what legislation you can do it under... You would be surprised the amount of security guards that do not even know where their powers come from.

That guy that resisted out the front of star city was clear cut negligence by the Security Officers involved and none of them should be working in the industry as that was shocking to watch.

I think they use codes anyway. Signal 1 = I've spilled the soup. Foxtrot 1 = fly in the soup, and you don't want to hear a Sierra 1 = spit in the soup.

You forget casino's have their own set of laws and rules under the gaming act. If your walking through with a head set on, for all they know you could be communicating with a card counter or some other form of cheating. They have the full right to question you about it, and then decide if they want to throw you out and use force if you resist.
I would bet if your ear piece was not a form of hearing aid you would be out the door quick smart.

Thats what i was not sure about whether they had legal grounds to do it or whether they would just act like meat head security guards.

obviously the gaming legislation is pretty powerful stuff

They have a board at the door of the gaming floor on what not to do, the right clothes, what you can not bring in,etc. At the poker tables some ppl have there ipods plug in. Spouse one could get some ipod headphones plug into the 396 hoping the security guards let you though without checking you.

I'm surprised about the ipods being allowed as they have a built in FM radio and someone can broadcast over a low powered FM mike, or even record an mp3 file containing instructions on how to beat the system.

Was listening very early this morning and noticed that Star City Casino appears to be upgrading to NXDN digital
Currently 470.725 is a NXDN digital channel
I suspect that Security would have moved across to digital
LTR is still happening on at least 5 of the 7 frequencies, though I could not hear the pulse on 473.0500
All the gaming traffic can still be heard on LCN 06

PS Kenwood LTR radios have a natural progression path to NXDN Digital in the Kenwood radio scheme of things

Had a listen today
6 channels / frequency now NXDN
Only 486.725 is still analogue.
Suspect that all the casino is using the new radios ... just the final frequency to be upgraded
Given it is a 12.5kHz signal presume there are 13 channels now + a data channel which seems to be part of the 470.725 frequency

Grant

The old channels
LCN 01 470.7250
LCN 02 473.0500 Entertainment
LCN 03 473.3500 Security
LCN 04 473.9000
LCN 05 474.3750
LCN 06 486.7250 Gaming
LCN 07 487.0750
