Re: Programming 396T for GRN Zones

Thanks soup, that basically answered all my questions. The reason for the alternating SSID in short was due to bad stepping in my scan. I've recently turned to using the 'Trunk Scan' feature to discover control channels, instead of relying on Internet lists. I had my step set to 5khz, not 12.5khz, w...

Blue Mts MDT is down!

The MDT's in Blue Mountains are apparently not working. I believe this may impact parts of Western Sydney as well.

All jobs are being lodged through GRN TG 44288 at present.

Re: Antenna Cable

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll be getting some RG213 from RFI and looking into their discones. And for the record, don't bother looking for any decent radio gear from Jaycar - its all crap and they don't have RG213 - only RG59, RG58 & RG6.

Programming 396T for GRN Zones

Okay, I have a totally stupid question. Zones with GRN is something I do not understand at all. Should I be programming a new 'System' for each zone, or does each zone go in the one 'System'? Reason I ask is, I'm trying to figure out why I sometimes get parts of a conversation even when I'm only sca...

Antenna Cable

Three questions about fitting an external antenna and the cables involved... I'm considering fitting a discone. Or alternatively fitting 4 ants and 4 scanners to service 70-80mhz, 118-137mhz, 400mhz & 800mhz. I presently use my radio scanner in a room thats effectively a radio blackspot on all bands...

Re: Simplex

Neat! Thanks for the info!

I'll let you know how successful I am with the usual weekend rescues that happen in the mountains.

Re: SCA NPWS

NPWS also have transmissions on 400mhz... 450.975 & 460.975 are two I hear from time to time from Mt Tomah. Both seem to be bridged with 70mhz channels. I actually found that one from crawling the ACMA site :P Also they typically have a chopper in the air over Blue Mountains on a daily basis... chop...

Discones aren't all that expensive on ebay - much the same price as a VHF ant in a retail shop.

Simplex

Short intro as I'm new to these forums - Hi, I'm Pete from the mountains. Just got into scanning a few months back. I feel I've educated myself a bit about radio, configuring GRN all on my own, and successfully intercepting quite a number of radio users. A computer tech background probably helped. I...
